Pasta Dinner and other updates


The skiers are off to a great start for the season!  We have plenty of opportunities for families to participate and support the team.

The Pasta Dinner / Silent Auction is coming up this weekend!
When: Sunday, 12/15/2019, 5-7 pm
Where: Grace Fellowship Church in Brooklyn Park (corner of Hwys 169 and 610)
What: Pasta dinner donated by Buona Sera, with Silent Auction and Cooler Raffle fundraisers.  There are several ways to assist:
  • Sign up for Silent Auction donations See Kami Oldroyd's email for donation suggestions.  Email Kami (kamioldroyd@yahoo.com) or Tamie Kyes (tkyes@hotmail.com) with questions.
  • Cooler Raffle.  Return all tickets, both purchased and those not sold.  Contact Joe or Tamie Kyes for more information (tkyes@hotmail.com).
  • Pasta Dinner Tickets.  Your skier should have received Pasta Dinner tickets (7 per skier) to sell.  $10 per ticket.  We are planning for 150+ attendees.
  • Homemade Dessert.  We ask each family to please bring a homemade dessert.  This is a fan favorite.
  • Sign up to Volunteer at the Dinner.  **All skiers are asked to volunteer.  We need more skiers to sign up for 2nd and 3rd shifts!  (contact Suzy Scheller at suzy.scheller@gmail.com with questions)

Additional volunteer opportunities:

  1. Start Line Help.  Parent help is welcome at the start line for all races.  Look for other parents at the start line to train in (help get capes on & off, put outer clothing in bags, etc).
  2. Pasta Party Sign-up.  Sign up to host a pasta party the night before a race.  New hosts welcome and co-hosting is encouraged!  Please provide a gluten free option.
  3. Meet Food Sign-up.  Volunteer to bring food/snacks to the meets for the skiers.  Please contact Dan Omann (danromann@gmail.com) or Suzy Scheller (suzy.scheller@gmail.com) with questions.

Booster Club meeting and fundraisers

Our next Booster meeting is Tuesday, 11/26/2019, from 6:30-7:30 pm in D151 at CPHS.  Agenda items include Pasta Fundraiser, Silent Auction, Raffle, Finance Report, team schedule, and coaches updates.

Sign up for bagging at the Champlin Cub Foods on Wednesday, 11/27/2019, from 10 am – 6 pm.  We need more high schoolers for the 4-6 pm shift.  Skiers, wear a CPHS Nordic shirt (last year’s team t-shirt or sweatshirt).

Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction.  Our main fundraiser is on Sunday, 12/15/2019, 5-7 pm at Grace Fellowship Church in Brooklyn Park.
There are several ways to assist:
    • Silent Auction.  Please donate an item for the Silent Auction, either by asking for donations in the community and/or donating a basket or items.  Email Kami Oldroyd (kamioldroyd@yahoo.com) or Tamie Kyes (tkyes@hotmail.com) with questions. 
    • Pasta Dinner Tickets.  Skiers should receive Pasta Dinner tickets this week to sell (such as to friends and family over Thanksgiving break!).  $10 per ticket.
    • Homemade Dessert.  For the dinner itself, we ask each family to bring a homemade dessert.  This is a fan favorite.
    • Volunteer at the Dinner.  A sign-up genius message will be forthcoming to sign up to help in either the 3:30-6 pm shift of the 6 – 8:30 pm shift.  Skiers, wear your CPHS Nordic shirt when volunteering.
Raffle.  See flyer regarding raffle tickets for a high-end Engel Cooler.  Bring those raffle tickets to your Thanksgiving festivities!  We’ll be collecting sold tickets after Thanksgiving (you still have until December 15th to sell tickets).  The tickets will be for sale at the Pasta Dinner as well.  Contact Joe or Tamie Kyes for more information (tkyes@hotmail.com).

Pasta Party Sign-up.  Now that the meet schedule is up, sign-up to host a pasta party the night before a race.  Parents and middle schoolers are welcome to attend.  Co-hosting is encouraged (i.e. a co-host is needed with Suzy Scheller on Tuesday 12/10).

Upcoming fundraisers and other reminders

Several updates for this week:

  1. Submit registration.  If you have not already done so, submit your registration form and payment for ski passes/rentals to Kim Ostendorf  *(kimostendorf.nordic@gmail.com10401 Fernwood Lane N.  Champlin, MN 55316)
  2. Cub Bagging.  Sign-up here for the bagging fundraiser at Champlin Cub Foods on Wednesday, 11/27/2019, from 10 am – 6 pm.  This is a very productive fundraiser for the team and fun too - come if you are in town!
  3. Pasta Fundraiser.  Looking ahead to our main fundraiser on Sunday, 12/15/2019, 5-7 pm at Grace Fellowship Church in Brooklyn Park.  The current request is for tax-deductible donations for our Silent Auction, either by asking for donations in the community and/or donating a basket or items.  Email Kami Oldroyd (kamioldroyd@yahoo.com) or Tamie Kyes (tkyes@hotmail.com) for Silent Auction items or questions.
  4. Cooler Raffle.  In conjunction with the Pasta Fundraiser on 12/15/2019, there will be a raffle for a high-end cooler with a $300 value for $1 per raffle ticket (see flyer for info).  Skiers will be given packets of 50 tickets each. To comply with charitable gambling rules, the packets should be returned with all sold ticket stubs and unsold tickets.  Detailed directions are included in the packets.  Contact Joe or Tamie Kyes (tkyes@hotmail.com) with questions.

Welcome to the 2019-2020 Nordic Season!

As we kick-off a new season, be sure to: 
    1. Review team hand-out if you missed the Nordic parent meeting 
    2. Submit Registration and T-shirt Orders.  Please send your registration sheet and apparel orders to Kim Ostendorf by 11/17/2019. 
      • Submit form via email kimostendorf.nordic@gmail.com, text a picture to 612-708-0583,  or mail to 10401 Fernwood Lane N.  Champlin, MN 55316 
      • Send payment by check made out to CPHS Nordic or through Venmo (instructions in registration form) 
    3. Sign up for Cub Bagging fundraiser.  We need student and parent volunteers for the fundraiser on Wed 11/27/2019.  New this year, middle schoolers can volunteer as well.  Register via SignUpGenius:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040d49acac2ca7f85-cphs. 
    4. Sign up for the team Remind.  Text @cphsnordic to 81010 to receive regular updates from the coaches.  Note – the previous Remind was archived due to space issues, so you will need to re-join this year even if you have joined the Nordic Remind in previous seasons. 
    5. RSVP for Buona Sera.  To show appreciation to Buona Sera restaurant for their donation of food for our Pasta Fundraiser, we will be having dinner there on Friday, 11/15/2019, at 5:30 pm.  Let Suzy Scheller know by Wednesday, 11/13/2019 if you want to join! (suzy.scheller@gmail.com).

At this meeting we will vote on next year's operating and capital budget and vote on increasing this year's capital expenditures that will benefit the team, but decrease our cash reserves.

Attention Seniors - Create a Display of your Nordic Career for the Banquet

Seniors are encouraged to create a display highlighting their middle school and high school Nordic skiing career for the banquet. Many parents and students enjoy viewing the senior displays!

Photos of the 2018-2019 Nordic season and previous seasons can be found HERE.

Each photographer has been encourage to upload their favorite photos from the season into their respective "Favorites" gallery. This is a great place to start looking for YOUR favorite photos, but definitely view each race gallery by photographer for your favorites.

Thank you photographers for sharing your valuable time, expensive equipment, and artistic talents with the Nordic team...GREATLY APPRECIATED!

REMINDER - Banquet RSVPs due Wednesday, February 20th


The Nordic Team Awards Banquet is Thursday, February 28th.  RSVPs with your dinner count are due to Craig by midnight, Wednesday February 20th.  Cost is $15 per person, including athletes.

Please RSVP and verify your dinner count HERE.  Let Craig know of any changes by midnight, February 20th.  Craig’s contact information is on the banquet dinner count listing.

RSVP means we would appreciate a timely reply from everyone, whether or not you plan to attend the banquet.  The caterer will charge us $100 for any changes to our dinner count after February 20th, and we will pass that extra cost to you if you RSVP late or make any changes after February 20th.
